Illusion

Opposing school - Low Magic

Forget/remember

A spell for the manipulation of the memories of an individual, from remembering the way to removing vital knowledge from an enemy scout.

Material component- Ash (Minor spell)

This short ritual requires the mage to place the recipient in a circle of ash and lull the recipient of the spell into a calm meditative state where their memories can be manipulated to an extent to make them remember or forget information. The memories though do not go away entirely they are just blocked magically and can resurface by the use of the opposite spell remember. Some memories are irrepressible as they are just too strong and it would take a mage of great skill to wipe some ones memory completely. It can be possible to recover these memories naturally over time or pieces of information at least especially if confronted or interrogated at length.

Chill touch

In the mind of the recipient they are getting colder and colder, feeling the chill arctic winds whistle across their form. It is as if all heat has been instantly drained from them.

Material component- A crystal (Minor spell)

Cast using a crystal necklace, gripped in the casters hand while the other is placed on the victim and intoning the vocals ending in  “CHILL TOUCH”. The recipient must then drop what ever they are holding and attempt to return warmth to the body and limbs for a slow count of 30. If struck before the end of the spell the effects are instantly dismissed and the victim feels normal again.

Tasha’s uncontrollable hideous laughter

A spell devised by one of the funniest mages to ever walk the land, regardless of what amusing anecdote the caster says to the target they hear the most amazing joke of the civilization. (Can you imagine what an Orc finds funny - no you really don’t want to)

Material component- Large feather (more colourful the better) (Major spell)

Starting with the wording “YOU, I WILL NOW TELL YE A TALE” or something along those lines and gesturing with the feather and holding eye contact, tell the victim your amusing tale. On successful completion, laughter will start to bubble out of the victim rendering them on the floor helpless with laughter for a slow count of 30, often the victim has been known to plead for death.

Mists of the unseen

Summoning the surrounding mists to the caster renders them transparent and unable to be seen by all denizens of the unnatural plane of existence. (Demons/undead/ghosts/etc) Effectively invisible to the naked eye and undetectable by the keenest of the supernatural guards.

Material component- A Focus (Staff for example) (Major spell)

Chanting “I AM IN THE MISTS” repeatedly and holding you focus above your head in both hands the caster is able to move slowly, unseen and undetected, for a slow count of 30. If chanting is stopped for any reason the spell ends and the caster is instantly visible once more.

Heat metal

A spell for making a single metal item seem to gain heat so rapidly the recipient must drop the item if held or try to get rid of the item as quick as they can. An amusing spell created by the elves to amuse them selves with Questing Knights

Material component- egg shell crushed (Major spell)

Pointing at the target item and chanting about how the item is gain heat and how they must get free of it. (I.e. That sword is getting hotter, smoke is starting to come from your hand, hotter and hotter, etc) The recipient must get rid of the item affected as if it was suddenly red hot for a slow count of 30. In the case of armour the recipient is in great pain as they think they are burning and must writhe about unless they can get rid of the armour or a slow count of 30 is reached. In either case the injury is illusionary and at the end of the spell will be unhurt.

Shadows

A terrifying spell which causes the recipient to see hostile shadows closing upon them from every corner.

Material component- Black powder (Major spell)

Pouring the black powder at the feet of the recipient and telling of the shadows closing in all around the target will render them helpless with fear and rooted to the spot for a slow count of 30 or until the chanting stops. The recipient may defend themselves but very little else.

Story weave

A difficult spell to master. Through ritual and ceremony, the caster can incite those around them to great feats of heroism and defend against mind affecting fear. A spell that has more than once been the difference between defeat and victory.

Material component- A magic circle and a focus (Major spell)

Drawing a circle around the caster and holding their focus in the air the caster starts intoning a litany about how fear has no sway, victory is close and what is to be done. Weave a story about how you will win the battle. While chanting the party are immune to fear based spells and effects. Can kept going indefinitely or until the caster runs out of voice.

Insect swarm

A spell that will leave the recipient itching and unable to concentrate.

Material component- Black peppercorns or similar (Minor spell)

Material components are poured and let fall to the ground in front of the target and the mage must verbalise the spell to their opponent with a loud clap and a gesture to the recipient with a litany of verbals describing their worsening state. The recipient is then infested with imaginary insects and parasites and must scratch and fuss. Especially effective against other spell casters as they will struggle to concentrate to cast spells.

Example of Epic spell rituals can be great illusions that can effect many.
